Under the partnership, a range of AAT short courses, including AAT Business Finance Basics and AAT Essentials, are now accessible to civil servants across all government departments through the Civil Service Learning portal, known as the Government Campus.
With the courses now listed on the platform, both finance professionals and colleagues in non-financial roles can easily develop or update their core financial understanding.
By equipping civil servants with essential financial skills, particularly those responsible for managing and delivering publicly funded programmes, the partnership will contribute to the government’s ambitions to strengthen financial capability, improve transparency and ensure better value for taxpayers’ money. This enhanced capability is expected to support more effective decision-making and the efficient use of public resources.
Designed to suit learners from a wide range of backgrounds and experience levels, the courses use plain-language explanations alongside practical examples drawn from both the public and private sectors.
Chantel Carpenter, Commercial Director at AAT, commented:
“Strong financial and business skills are essential for any organisation. They give people the confidence and insight to understand how decisions impact outcomes and ultimately improve performance. At AAT, we’re committed to helping organisations build capability through practical, real-world training that makes a difference from day one. We’re delighted to bring this approach to the Civil Service, supporting its ambition to upskill teams and drive accountability across government.”
The collaboration builds on AAT’s wider work to improve financial literacy and business skills across the UK workforce. It follows the recently announced partnership with the Nuclear Institute, which provides tailored financial training for its members, and AAT’s move to become the first accountancy professional body to join the South Yorkshire Skills Bank, helping to address regional skills gaps.
AAT’s short courses are now live and available to book via the Civil Service Learning platform at civil-service-learning.civilservice.gov.uk.
