Kirk Newsholme Welcomes Former Trainee Back as Associate Director

Leeds-based accountancy firm Kirk Newsholme has strengthened its senior team with the return of Steven Wotherspoon as associate director.

Wotherspoon will help lead the firm’s growing Business Services team, returning to the practice where he originally began his accountancy career as a school-leaver in 2010.

He went on to qualify as a chartered accountant with Kirk Newsholme and progressed into a management position before joining another independent accountancy firm in 2024.

His return represents a significant appointment for Kirk Newsholme as it continues to develop its business services offering and invest in experienced accountancy professionals.

The appointment also provides a strong example of the career opportunities available through school-leaver routes into the profession. Wotherspoon’s journey from trainee to associate director reflects the long-term progression that accountancy firms can offer to those entering the sector without initially following a traditional university pathway.

At a time when accountancy firms across Yorkshire are competing to attract and retain experienced professionals, returning employees can bring valuable knowledge of the firm alongside additional experience gained elsewhere in the market.

Kirk Newsholme is an independent firm of chartered accountants, business advisers and tax specialists based at Thorpe Park in Leeds.
