Hawsons Expands Advisory Offering with Data Protection and Cyber Security Business

Sheffield-based accountancy and business advisory firm Hawsons has expanded its specialist services with the launch of Hawsons Data Protection & Cyber Security.

The move follows the rebrand of data protection and cyber security specialist Bruce & Butler, which has adopted the Hawsons name as part of a wider alignment between the two businesses.

The firms first entered into a strategic alliance in 2025, and the latest step brings their services together under a single brand.

Bruce & Butler will now operate as Hawsons Data Protection & Cyber Security, providing specialist support around data protection, cyber security, governance and compliance alongside Hawsons’ existing accountancy, tax, corporate finance, payroll and financial planning services.

For existing Bruce & Butler clients, the business has confirmed that the team and services will remain unchanged, with the transition primarily focused on branding and creating a more unified market presence.

Matt Bruce will continue to lead the operation as Managing Director of Hawsons Data Protection & Cyber Security.

The move reflects a wider trend across the accountancy profession, with firms increasingly broadening their advisory services beyond traditional tax and compliance work.

As businesses face growing pressures around cyber risk, data protection and regulatory compliance, demand for specialist advice in these areas has continued to increase.

Pete Wilmer, Managing Partner and Head of Corporate Finance at Hawsons, said the alignment represented a natural next step in the relationship between the two businesses and supported the firm’s ambition to expand the specialist advice available to clients.

The addition also strengthens Hawsons’ wider advisory offering across Yorkshire, with the firm operating from offices in Sheffield and Doncaster alongside its Northampton office.

For regional businesses, the move provides access to data protection and cyber security expertise alongside more traditional accountancy and business advisory services under one brand.

The rebrand was officially announced on 7 September 2026.
