Yorkshire accountancy firm Shorts has welcomed three new graduates to the business as part of its 2026 graduate intake.
Leila Presho, Jaskaran Mehat and Ben Stones have joined the firm as they begin their careers in professional services.
With offices in Sheffield and Chesterfield, Shorts has an established programme for developing early-career professionals, with opportunities available through graduate placements, apprenticeships and professional training routes.
The latest intake forms part of the firm’s continued investment in developing its future workforce and providing structured routes into the accountancy profession.
Shorts begins working with its graduate recruits before their official start dates, providing information about the firm and their roles alongside opportunities to meet colleagues ahead of joining.
Its onboarding programme also focuses on mentoring, professional development and helping new recruits build confidence as they make the transition from university into the workplace.
The arrival of the three graduates comes at a time when attracting and developing the next generation of accountants remains an important priority across the profession.
Competition for qualified professionals has encouraged accountancy firms to invest increasingly in their own talent pipelines, with graduate and apprenticeship programmes providing an important route for developing future accountants, tax advisers and business advisers.
For regional firms, retaining that talent after qualification is equally important as Yorkshire’s accountancy market continues to grow and demand increases for expertise across areas including tax, audit, corporate finance and business advisory.
Shorts supports trainees working towards professional qualifications and is an approved training employer with both ICAEW and ACCA.
The firm has also indicated that applications for its 2027 Graduate Programme are expected to open in November, providing another opportunity for graduates considering a career within the regional profession.
The new recruits join Shorts as the firm continues to develop its team across its Sheffield and Chesterfield operations.
